The Water Planet

  • Client(s): VideoDiscovery

  • Project Name:The Water Planet

  • Project Year:1994

  • Project Description:

Molchan Marine Sciences directed and produced four mini-documentaries highlighting the careers of oceanographers for an educational videodisc and CD-ROM aimed at teaching secondary and post-secondary school students the importance of interdisciplinary science and education. The oceanographic mini-documentaries focused on:

  • Rapid response and oceanographic modeling done by oceanographers in the Hazardous Materials Response Division of NOAA’s Office of Response and Restoration.
  • Real-time tides and current measurements collected by NOAA’s National Ocean Service Office.
  • International Arctic Research and Scientific data collection involving the Canadian and U.S.C.G. Polar Icebreakers, highlighting the movement and existence of pollution in the once pristine arctic environment.
  • NOAA’s oceanographic scientists installing subsurface tsunami gauges off the Pacific coast, providing the keys to unlock questions about the way in which energy travels and is formed below the surface of the water.
